Home / Kitchens / Handleless kitchens
Handleless kitchens have been our most requested style over the last two years, and it is easy to see why. Doors open with an integrated rail or a gentle push, so the eye reads one continuous surface rather than a row of handles. Essex Home Kitchens designs, supplies and installs complete handleless kitchens, with every trade under one contract and one project manager from first survey to handover.

The style
There are two ways to open a handleless door, and we offer both:
On our Brentwood project, a true handleless kitchen with an aluminium grip rail was finished in matt graphite lacquer, with an oak breakfast bar, oak open shelving and a 20mm Calacatta-effect quartz island with a waterfall end.
Finishes
Handleless kitchen cabinets are available in four finishes:
Because there are no handles to break up the run, colour and finish do a lot of work. Darker tones such as graphite read as calm and architectural. Soft neutrals like cashmere, used on one of our Chelmsford projects with a breakfast bar and LED plinth lighting, keep a kitchen-diner light. Pairing a painted or lacquered run with a wood veneer island is a good way to add warmth.
Worktops
Thin, crisp worktop edges suit the clean lines. Quartz and Dekton are natural partners, and a waterfall end, where the worktop turns down the side of the island, finishes a run neatly. Solid timber or an oak breakfast bar softens the look. Every worktop is laser templated after the cabinets are in, so the edges line up with the rails below. See our kitchen worktops guide for the full range.
Layouts
The style suits contemporary extensions, kitchen-diners and minimal interiors. Long runs, islands and peninsulas all look their best without handles interrupting them. Because a true handleless kitchen relies on channels and rails, the layout, appliance positions and services have to be planned together. We plan an island's electrics, extraction and floor loads before a single cabinet is ordered, and lighting goes on separate circuits, wired and certified by our own electricians.
Pros and cons
In favour: a clean, uninterrupted look; nothing to catch clothing on in a busy room; flat faces that are easy to wipe.
To consider: rail channels need an occasional clean to keep crumbs out, and push-to-open doors suit some cupboards better than others. Your designer will show you where each opening method makes sense.
Cost
Complete kitchen projects with Essex Home typically range from £18,000 to £50,000 and above, depending on the room, the cabinetry, worktops, appliances and any building work. The quotation is fixed and itemized, with every trade shown.
Like the look but not sure? Our modern kitchens use similar slab doors, and our designers can talk you through both during a free home visit.

Handleless
★★★★★
"Everything was handled by Essex Home. The electrician, the plasterer and the tiler all turned up when we were told they would, and Dan managed it all. We never had to chase anyone."
